Home Study Services
|
|
|
Adoption-Link prepares both international and domestic home studies and
provides post-placement / post-adoption services for Illinois residents
planning to adopt.

What is a home study?
|
|
|
A home study is very much what its name implies. The home study is an
assessment of a prospective adoptive family's home environment and is conducted
by a licensed adoption professional. This professional will review
autobiographical and health statements, documentation of income, child abuse
and criminal clearances, personal references, etc. Although this may feel a bit
invasive, the purpose of the home study investigation is to insure that the
adopted child will join a safe, secure and loving family. Overall the home
study will take anywhere from 2-4 months to prepare.

Post Placement Services
|
|
|
Post-Placement / Post-Adoption consists of photos and letters provided by the
adoptive family as well as home visits and interviews conducted by the agency.
The number of post-placement reports required will be determined upon placement
of a child, depending on the source agency's and/or country of origin's
requirements.

What are the costs?
|
|
$150 application fee
$1,900 home study fee (domestic or international)
$250 for each post-placement visit / report required* This fee applies to only
those families adopting through an agency other then Adoption-Link.
*Post placement fees vary based on the number required by the adoption country
and state. If you are adopting domestically and reside in Illinois, you will be
required to have 3 post placement/adoption visits in the first 5 months. Each
post placement / adoption visit includes a written report. Please

Adoption Education
|
|
|
10 hours of adoption education are required by Adoption Link to complete the
home study process. One day long workshop, "Getting Ready to Adopt", provides 6
hours of training. The cost is $130 per 2 attendees. Reservations for this
class may be made by calling the Adoption Link office at (708) 524-4673.
Families adopting transracially are required to complete "Racial Sensitivity
Training" conducted by
Bridge Communications. This workshop (9 hours) is $150 per person. The
presentation is divided into three 3-hour Sessions. These classes are also
offered to families out-of-state by teleconference calls.
